Ninety seats were on offer. According to a staff member, three more students will soon join the course. There are three teachers.

The university, a pet project of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, had hoped for a much better response from students, especially from rural areas, who apparently find it difficult to cope with English when they enroll for engineering courses.

Although the university had gone out its of way to promote the engineering course, including inserting pamphlets in newspapers, it managed to get a handful of applicants for the four-year course each Nagar (civil), Vaidyut (electrical) and Yantrik (mechanical) engineering.

Admitting that there are challenges in running the course, V-C Prof Mohanlal Chheepa said, “We were prepared to start with even one student. Once the course begins, more students will join.’’
